PHD - Pass Rates (previous years):  2007 - 52%, 2006 - 64%, 2005 - 58%, 2004 - 47%,  2003 - 63%,  2002 - 57%,  2001 - 41%

The national pass rate for first time passes is considerably lower.  The chart to the right shows how many tests it has taken to pass for students who have passed their tests with PHD.

The large number in bold is the number of tests taken to pass.  The smaller number on the outside shows the number of people who have passed on this attempt, and as a percentage of all pupils who have passed with PHD.  As an example 129 people have passed on their first test, which is 64.8% of all pupils who have passed with PHD.

The last 10 test passes with PHD (as at 01/04/2008) show the following statistics .

6 passed on their first attempt, 3 passed on their second attempt and 1 passed on their 5th attempt at the driving test. The average number of hours training taken to pass was 35.5. (Removing the 2 slowest students reduces this average to 28.6 hours). Only 3 of those students had extra private practice.

On average, according to DSA figures, people take at least 45 professional lessons to pass their test, plus 22 hours driving in private practice. At current lesson rates, my last 10 students have, on average, saved over £200 each in lesson costs.
